Recycle
This category is for all items that can be recycled locally. For our project, we went by items that would be accepted at the Recycling Center for the Alabama Environmental Council in Birmingham, AL. This includes everything listed below. You might want to modify this according to your local recycling center's guidelines.
Compost
This category includes all food products. Some people who compost say that this should only be non-meat products, but others disagree. We chose to include any food product as compostable.
Waste/Trash
Basically, everything you throw out that isn't recyclable or compostable. Keep in mind that this includes the caps from plastic bottles; these are a different type of plastic and aren't usually recyclable.

- Mixed paper (not wax-coated)
- Aluminum cans
- Mixed steel
- #1 Plastic bottles (not bottle caps)
- #2 Plastic
- Electronics
- Cell phones
